Adeboruwa Cup 2024 Kicks Off With Exciting Matches

Alhaji Ganiu Olubodun kick – off the 2024 Adeboruwa Cu at the UAMC (Eleja) Primary School playing ground on Friday.

Football loving residents of Igbogbo, were not disappointed on Friday, when the 2024 Adeboruwa Cup kicked off as planned, with the opening game living up to expectations.

The two exciting and highly technical games satisfied the appetites of the residents that trooped out to the U.A.M.C (Eleja) pitch hosting the tournament.

Alhaji Ganiu Olubodun, the Bobasega of Igbogbo Kingdom and the special guest of honour at the opening game, performed the ceremonial kick off after he led the Chairman, Ikorodu Division FA, Alhaji Lukman Shonibare who served as the match commissioner and other guests including Mr Dauda Oshinlaja, Supervisor for Tourism, Igbogbo/Bayeky LCDA, Comrade Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa, President, Igbogbo Youth Coalition (IYC) and Mr Olalekan Ahmed, Chairman, Comfort Edge and members of the Igbogbo Day Sports Committee, in performing the ceremonial handshakes with players and the match officials.

The opening match between Oliwo Amoju FC v Basorun FC ended goalless at the end of the 90 minutes regulation time.

Oliwo Amoju’s goal keeper, Lawal Basit, who saved a penalty and also made other saves during encounter, emerged as the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

In the second match of the opening day, the Triumphant FC that was the away team, was unable to triumph over Adeyanlu FC as the match ended 1 – 0 in favour of the home team.

Just like in the first game, another goalkeeper, Philip Ehis of the Triumphant FC, emerged as the MVP of the second match.

The two MVPs were presented with small trophy sponsored by Comfort Edge.

Meanwhile, Igbogbo Day Sports Committee, Mr Obayomi Adeoye, speaking with our reporter after the two matches, said that fans and residents of Igbogbo kingdom, should be expecting more exciting and interesting games as the tournament progresses.

While commending the teams and spectators for good conducts, he said that organisers of the tournament are expecting more cooperation and disciplined environment in other matches.

He also thanked the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Kasali, Chairman of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Builder Sesan Daini and all the sponsors, for the support.
